Back in September 2016 I reviewed the original High Wire by Magic Rock, an uncomplicated but very enjoyable West Coast style pale ale. If you go back and read that review you'll see how much grapefruit was evident in that beer.... well in this Grapefruit version they've turned that up to eleven!

On the first cracking of the can the grapefruit aroma hits you in the face, and that aroma only gets stronger as you pour. The beer itself has a lovely pinkish haze going on, is well carbonated but has little in the way of a head or lacing.

The taste is pure grapefruit, but where is there is a slight sweetness to the aroma, the flavour is all pithy bitterness.

I drank this can whilst over indulging on pepperoni pizza and it actually paired really well, the refreshing tartness cutting through the fat and carb laden feast like a knife through butter (ummm, I love butter).

Like it's sibling, this High Wire Grapefruit is not blessed with huge depth or complexity of flavour, but it does taste amazing and will probably become a fixture in my fridge.

  1. Sometimes a flavorful, but not complex, beer is just what you need!

  2. Sounds like a solid brew, I enjoyed your write up! Cheers

  3. Beer and pizza - that's living!

  4. Grapefruit is one of my favorite flavors in a beer. This one sounds like I'd thoroughly enjoy it. Great post!
